If you’re worried about waking bleary-eyed for an early flight (or arriving on a late one in need of sleep), discover your main options for Vienna airport hotels…
- NH and MOXY hotels in the airport itself
- Rapid travel connections make city locations a top choice, too
- Add a classical concert experience* to your stay

Unsurprisingly, Vienna airport is not located next door to the cathedral but about 20 kms outside the city.
The actual airport complex has just two hotels on site, both with strong ratings last time I checked (early December, 2024)…
NH Vienna Airport Conference Center
A four-star hotel and part of the international NH hotel group, which owns other properties in Vienna. The NH Vienna Airport also doubles as a conference centre (as the name suggests), so is full of business facilities.
The hotel sits more or less opposite where you exit arrivals and the departure terminals; it took me two minutes to reach with a baggage trolley after passing through customs.
And it’s just as close to the airport’s train and bus services.

MOXY Vienna Airport
The MOXY location is just 200m or so further on past the NH property, so equally convenient for arrivals and departures.
This Marriott brand has, for example, a 24-hour bar and a 24-hour fitness centre (editor’s note: be careful how you combine the two).

Another on its way

The Vienna House Easy by Wyndham is currently under construction, which will add another 510 hotel rooms to the airport. This will be the continent’s largest hotel built from wood.
According to press information, the plan is to open at the end of 2025 at the western end of the complex next to the VIP & General Aviation Terminal.
Other nearby hotels
(The U-Bahn subway network gets you around Vienna quickly and the S-Bahn city train network connects you to the surrounds)
Nature encircles Vienna airport, so no hotels line the outskirts (as you get with such places as London Heathrow).
The towns and countryside between the airport and Vienna do offer some options. Though I’m not sure how much time they actually save you given the speed of transit links between the city and the departure/arrival terminals (see below).
These hotels, etc. might be of more interest if you want to visit Vienna but avoid big city accommodation prices. Booking.com has a list*.
The town of Schwechat, for example, borders Vienna and is around 10 minutes or so from the airport by car. The S7 city train that travels out to the airport from Vienna and back also stops here (again, see below).
Locals actually often refer to the airport as Wien-Schwechat or even just Schwechat.
Stay in Vienna
I’m not being facetious with the idea that you might stay anywhere in the city. You can reach the airport quite quickly even from central hotels in Vienna (and vice versa).
Equally, of course, you can reach the city from the airport hotels just as fast.
Airport transfers
( The City Airport Train has a terminal in the centre at Wien Mitte with a check-in service for selected flights. It gets you to the airport in around 16 minutes; press photo © City Airport Train)
Outside of peak traffic times, the airport can be under 30 minutes from the centre if you use a taxi or an English-speaking transfer service like the Welcome car people*.
Note that the airport lies to the southeast of the city, so hotels in the south and east of Vienna should involve a shorter transfer time by car.
If you’re happy to find your way to a railway station or bus stop:
- The non-stop CAT (express city airport train) takes about 16 minutes between the airport and the Wien Mitte subway and train station
- The slower (but cheaper) S7 city train goes out regularly to the airport and back with various stops en route. Other regional and national trains also go from Vienna’s Wien Mitte and main Hauptbahnhof stations
- Dedicated airport buses run to and from the main railway stations and, for example, from the edge of the old town and from locations around the UN building
